Sassy is an AI-powered career explorer informed by the Oregon Department of Education’s extensive documentation on career connected learning and work-based learning. It is a collaboration between the Oregon Department of Education, the Journalistic Learning Initiative, and Playlab.ai. It helps Oregon students explore various aspects of career planning–from brainstorming career options to preparing for employment interviews… and everything in between.
Sassy operates by leveraging advanced AI technologies, including a large language learning model to analyze and process vast amounts of data (from Oregon and beyond) related to career paths, educational opportunities, and job market trends. Users interact with Sassy by inputting their career-related queries or interests, and the AI, utilizing its comprehensive database and language understanding capabilities, provides personalized advice and recommendations.
This process involves parsing the user’s input to understand their needs, matching these needs with relevant information from its extensive database. Through this method, Sassy acts as a highly responsive and knowledgeable career exploration tool, accessible to anyone seeking guidance in their professional development journey.
Sassy adheres strictly to data protection laws and educational privacy standards, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and state-specific regulations in Oregon. These laws ensure that student data is handled with the utmost care and privacy. The platform employs advanced encryption for data storage and transmission, safeguarding personal information against unauthorized access. Additionally, Sassy’s interactions are designed to be age-appropriate, with content filtered to prevent the sharing of sensitive or inappropriate information. Sassy also keeps students motivated. Students pick what they need help with. They choose by typing a number. Sassy then gives advice and steps to follow. This makes planning for a career engaging, interactive, and fun.
Educators and institutions can integrate Sassy into their career advising and educational programs by directing students to use the tool as part of their career exploration and planning activities.
